Seaweed Farming for African Food Security

HornafrikSeaweed develops sustainable seaweed-based organic fertilizer solutions designed to help African farmers improve soil health, strengthen food production, and build a future without hunger.

The ocean can help feed Africa.

Developing Affordable Fertilizer from Ocean Soil

We make farming more affordable and resilient by developing sustainable seaweed-based organic fertilizing solutions. Our mission is to strengthen food production for African farmers and build a future where no one suffers from hunger.

By working directly with coastal communities, we cultivate seaweed that restores soil health and empowers local food security. The ocean can help feed Africa.

We are an early-stage initiative, starting small and learning closely with local farmers and coastal communities.

Expensive Synthetic Inputs

Many African farmers struggle to afford fertilizer. High global costs force families to choose between nourishing their soil and securing their daily meals.

Climate & Soil Degradation

Poor soil health and climate shocks reduce harvests, leading to fragile food systems that put immense pressure on rural households and national stability.

Community Stress

This leads to food insecurity and stress for families. No African should suffer from hunger due to a lack of affordable, sustainable agricultural solutions.

One Country at a Time

We believe lasting change begins locally. HornafrikSeaweed is building sustainable fertilizer systems step by step, community by community, and country by country across Africa. We start small, learn with farmers, and grow only when the foundations are strong.

01
Coastal Community Cultivation

We partner with coastal community networks to cultivate sustainable seaweed, creating reliable livelihoods and restoring vital marine ecosystems.

02
Affordable Organic Fertilizer

We process seaweed into powerful organic fertilizers designed to be affordable for African farmers, helping them improve soil health and resilience.

03
Fighting Hunger Locally

Our mission is clear: to ensure no African suffers from hunger. We strengthen local food production systems by making essential inputs accessible.

04
Sustainable Food Security

By transforming coastal seaweed into agricultural inputs, we create a circular model that strengthens food security and builds long-term regional self-sufficiency.

The Challenge

The Challenge: Hunger, High Costs, and Fragile Harvests

Many African farmers struggle to afford essential fertilizer, as costs continue to rise. Poor soil health and climate shocks reduce harvests, leading to food insecurity and immense stress for families across the continent.

• High Input Costs: Synthetic fertilizers have become a luxury many smallholder farmers simply cannot afford.

• Fragile Food Systems: Dependence on global supply chains leaves local communities vulnerable and hungry.

• The Mission: We believe that no African should suffer from hunger, and the ocean provides the solution.

Our UN Goals

HornafrikSeaweed works in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Our work with seaweed-based organic fertilizer is about strengthening food security, building resilient farming systems, and creating fair opportunities along the coast.

Goal 2: Zero Hunger

We want more farmers to be able to grow enough food through affordable, sustainable fertilizer that supports soil health and stable harvests over time.

Goal 13: Climate Action

Through regenerative agriculture and seaweed cultivation, we aim to contribute to more climate-resilient farming systems and nature-based solutions.

Goal 5: Gender Equality

We highlight and support women in coastal communities by creating income, voice, and new opportunities in the seaweed value chain.

Impact Commitment

Our Commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals

We are at the beginning of our journey, but every step we take is guided by these goals. HornafrikSeaweed works toward SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 13: Climate Action, and SDG 5: Gender Equality. We are a pilot phase initiative building an early-stage women-led seaweed cultivation network that supports local livelihoods and sustainable agriculture.

Balcad Pilot: Learning From the Land

In Balcad, Somalia, we are working with local farmers to test seaweed-based organic fertilizer on real fields. Our goal is to understand how it affects soil health and crop yields over time, and to share what we learn in an honest, transparent way.

This is an early-stage pilot. We are still learning, measuring, and listening to farmers before making any big claims.

Our Long-Term Vision: A Future Without Hunger

We strive to strengthen local food systems and reach more farmers across Africa. By grounding high-tech innovation in farmer resilience and food security, we ensure that sustainable marine agriculture directly benefits regional communities and builds a resilient future for all.
